What is 'Pre-Production?

Pre-Production is the early planning process and work done on elements needed to start producing a project in the film.

The process of pre-production is important as its tasks carried out helping to organise and figure out the elements needed for the film before they start actually producing it. Its allows you to look at and plan the locations being used, hiring crew and equipment, scheduling, scripting and more.

The things that pre-production needs to take place are budget breakdowns, shooting schedule, shooting scripts, call sheets, equipment bookings, storyboards, video log, sound log and mock-ups/layouts. These are very important parts of these pre-production process befiore rolling the cameras to start the actual project.

The requirements of pre-production are character profiles, budget templates, story treatment/script breakdown template and professional shortlist. They always ake sure to hire the actors swell as certain equipment. Those are the requirements otherwise it will not be done properly and effectively.

Production is just the project being produced and pre production is all the planning beforehand to piceit together for the production.

Post production happens after the production is complete; it is the last phase of the production process. Its when the project is prepared for release and both audio and visuals are being edited.

7 factors to consider when doing the
pre-production process?

• Time
• Finance
• Facilities
• Locations
• Personnel
• Materials
• Codes of Practice and Legislations

Time is one of the factors to consider when doing the pre-production process as it's about making sure your on time with the deadlines and the availability of the equipment and personnel.

Finance is a factor when doing the pre production process that focuses on how much money will be spent and invested into a project, budgets, and joint financing.

Facilities is another factor that is important as it focuses on the production as a whole, office and settings to shoot in.

Locations is an important in the pre-production process. This is because its about the limitations  and risks that may be involved, the distances, if you even have access to certain locations and identification.

Personnel is the part that focuses on the actors and the crew itself and the contributors.

Materials is another factor that is part of the pre-production process because its generally planning and using the sound, photos, costumes, properties, recorded music; anything mostly physical that makes everything and the majority of a piece. Interviews and graphs are important too.

The Codes of Clearances are just the clearances and regulations. Its the parts that involve focusing on copyrighting your work, too, and making sure things are legal to avoid complications.
