*ACTIVITY 1
Dark Red by
Steve Lacy

Steve Lacy in this song talks about how he's concerned for his relationship and he has a feeling "something bad is 'bout to happen.." as in, he has a feeling him and his girl are going to break up and its paining him. The storyline of this songs backs the lyrics because in the first scene, he's seen outside of a building at night, lip syncing to the music, facing and looking at the camera; all the while a female comes parking her car right next to when he's standing. Then next there's a blank shot and then we are shown a few shots to prove that he's disappeared from the spot where he was standing and then the beat drops of the 'Dark Red' song. In the next shot, we see him in the car boot because the femalekidnapped him and stuffed him in there. As he's in there, he continues to lip sync to the next track whilst fiddling with a lighter to lighten the boot seeing as it was very dark in there. The scenes switch from him in the boot, to the female driving happily and relied down a road trip; she looks pleased and exitehowever he looks sad and stressed. In the next scene, the car stops driving and he finally finds his way out of the boot, coming out all weak and tired. the girl comes out clearly mad that he's managed to escape, grabbing and tossing him around in slow motion. After she does this, she pulls him close and they share a moment.

*GENDER REPRESENTATIONS
This is a vogue magazine cover. This Vogue magazine cover reinforces the stereotypes about woman and men; that woman are submissive and and weak opposed to men being dominant and strong. This cover also has what a lot of media productions display, a lot the sexualised woman.
In this magazine cover, we see that the male is invading the womans personal space as he grips onto her body inappropriately and grabs onto her neck. Thanks to the midshot we are able to view the facial expressions and NVC on both subjects through this shot. The woman in this cover looks helpless, sexualised and dehumanised in the mans grip. She looks inferior to him as she standing there with one arm up looking as if she's surrendered from countless failed attempts at pushing him away. The NVC of this man looks like he is being on her vulnerability and enjoying it in comparison to the woman who looks forced and quite unhappy.
Both the male and woman are dressed formally wearing shirts in this Vogue magazine cover. She is wearing a white shirt and he appears to be wearing a black shirt. The colour black connotes power, sophistication and mystery and the colour white connotes cleanliness, peace and innocence. The choice of colour used for costume shows that the man in this magazine is already dark. From this the audience sees him as the 'bad'/'unpure' guy taking over the ladies 'good'/'pureness'.
This is a movie cover yet again reinforcing the stereotypes that woman are lower in status to men and that we live in a mans world. There are 3 woman in that cover, with a huger and taller man behind them, from this we see a message being conveyed probably saying that 3 woman can equivalent to 21 man or women belong to men. This yet again objectifies woman, as we are represented as vulnerable and dependent.
The women in this cover are wearing full clothing however their arms are uncovered whereas the man is fully covered dressed in a formal grey suit. The facial expressions of the male looks very serious, demanding and watchful as he stares into the camera with his half beady eyes. The NVC of his body tells us that he's slightly in a relaxed state since his arms are down; he's stood or sat in a still and straight position. The women are stood like they are ready to go and ready for any order from the man. they have an open NVC and their facial expressions look alert. In this regard, we as the audience can see that these women look captured, this also links to the numerous reports of trafficking, domestic abuse or sexual violence that occurs.
The overall colour of this movie poster are of mainly dark colours. This has a scared and creeped out effect on the audience because these colours connote unfriendliness, darkness and mystery; but its also intriguing because we want to know what this angry looking man is up to.
This poster is of a man holding a baby up on his shoulders wearing pink rubber gloves, holding a dustpan and brush. Additionally he's wearing a red, white polka dotted bandana with a very firm look on his face. This goes against popular gender stereotypes in society so this poster is considered counter stereotypical.
This poster subverts the gender norms of society because normally its considered females job to take care of children, cook, clean and wear the colour pink. These things are regarded feminine, because they are seen as feminine traits and jobs. However for men, there's stereotypes that they should be the bread winners, the heroes, the strong and independent fighters. Men are taught to love aggressive things from your age such as fighting.
The colour pink connotes motherhood, kindness and femininity; a colour that men avoid wearing. Nevertheless the man in the poster wears pink gloves. He's also holding a baby telling us that he's caring for that child on his own. We don't see much single dads being shown a lot through the media and it definitely subverts the stereotypes that men cannot care for children and its the mothers job.
This movie poster subverts the stereotypical gender norms because the women are represented as powerful, dominant and superior. There are 6 woman in this poster, they are all fully covered, wearing dark coloured similar uniforms holding sharp and dangerous weapons. Stereotypically woman are weak, dumb and are In need of a mans help but there are no men shown and from this see that these woman are indepdnent.

*REVISION
TASK ONE
How the 'No Shoplifting' scene in the movie
'Are We There yet' has been edited to create meaning and set a mood
At 1:00 they featured in a slow motion encouraging the audience to redirect their attention to the lady as she struggles to button up her coat whilst strolling. This creates a sense of beauty to the audience, helping the audience see what that man sees as he watches her gasping from his shop across the road. Thanks to the medium long shot we are able to clearly view her outfit consisting of a pink elegant dress and a blue coat, her hair blowing in the wind helping to emphasis her feminity and beauty.
TASK TWO
When watching this clip MUTED, It made me feel scared and worried for the little girl as she walked down that mysterious building. in my head I kept telling her to just stop and go home but she never did until she met the doppelgänger. It was like a jump scare and without the audio I had completely no idea what was to come and and what sounds there were while the girl was walking around.
When watching the clip UNMUTED I felt bit better watching it and less on edge. the suspenseful music and sound effects helped to inform me of what was commencing in a. way. the jump scares were still Kina scary but I wasn't as suprise since most of the time the little girl is walking around in silence. My feelings haven't really changed, its still pretty creepy, but I guess more creepy WITH sound. I see how audio and sound effects play a big part in movies and shows.
